Hello readers
On a recent domestic leisure trip, l booked a Virgin Australia business class flight to Melbourne, so l popped into Virgin’s Sydney domestic lounge.
In short, l visited in the morning during peak hour – it was a decent place to spend time before a flight, but surprised they didn’t open the second floor to allow for overflow given how busy it was. Read and see below for my thoughts and pictures.
- The lounge is open to Virgin Australia’s business class travellers / Velocity Platnium and Gold members
- Open daily from 60 minutes from the first departure of the day, and closes until the last flight is called for boarding
- There are two entrances, one from the Sydney Lounge Premium Entry (more details below), or accessible after you pass the standard security checks on the right hand side.
The lounge is a decent size (two levels, the second which opens up when the first level is busy), but when l was there in the morning, it was very busy. The lounge has good lighting, and a number of areas which are compartmentalised (so after the rush you can find your own space).
The food and drinks area is in the middle, and then you can find plenty of space to the sides.
Now the “Premium Entry” which is offered to travellers is very handy. Near the Terminal 2 drop off area, go towards the end and you will see the entry (as seen below). Generally there are very few people in there (the past few times l have used it), so it means security and the check in process is very quick! Note – if you need to check in your luggage, then you can’t use this, but have to use the standard entry process.
Dining and drinks
There was a self-service food and drink area, which is OK.
In the morning, there was a some hot food available such as bacons and eggs, and the standard cereal and pastries and fruit selection. There are three coffee stations available, most of the time, only one or two are in operation – they serve great coffee, and the mini cookies to the sides are some of the best!
The wine / beer offering is open from 11am. There was a wide array of non-alcholic beverages (most soft drinks / mineral water / juices).
Note – there are no spirits available! Though too early in the morning for me to complain!
Other facilities (showers etc)
As you can imagine with domestic flights, there isn’t much need for showers. There are a few, but l haven’t had a need to use it. They are located near the toilets, and opposite the main food area.
There are some pictures of the seating areas (this was taken after the morning rush was over!). As you can see, when it isn’t peak hour, you can find your own spot by yourself.
A decent lounge to spend some time before your flight.
Feel free to ask me any questions!
