Hello my fellow readers,
Don’t you hate the feeling when you search for a reward flight, find the perfect one, and then go to realise you are a few points short? But you have so many points sitting in other programs which can’t be used? It has happen to me way too often!
Thankfully there is a way around it, with any reader being able to transfer points from Virgin Australia’s Velocity to Singapore Airlines Krisflyer, or vice versa. The rate isn’t too bad, with 1.35 points in the existing program equalling 1 point in the other program. That is, if you have 135 Velocity points, you can transfer and receive 100 Krisflyer miles.
For my Australian readers, the most common transfer would be Velocity to Krisflyer given the number of options available for Australians to obtain Velocity points through credit cards etc.
There are a number of benefits given:
- Readers can redeem for travel on Singapore Airlines global network (travel to a number of Asian and European cities)
- In my view, Krisflyer miles are worth more than Velocity, so even though you take a slight haircut on the transfer, the better value makes up for it. The redemption rates for business and first class seats are much better!
- Plenty of redemption options given how often Singapore Airlines flies to destinations!
Just go into your Velocity account, then select “Points transfer – Airlines”, and then link your Krisflyer account to your Velocity account. Once linked, you just hit “transfer now”, as seen below.
A few things to note:
- Both accounts need to be in the same name and date of birth, so you can’t transfer points to a friend or family member!
- How long does it take to transfer? While Velocity / Krisflyer don’t disclose how long it takes, l’ve done it about three times, and each time is has been instant. Though its always good to build a small buffer in!
- Minimum points transfer is 5,000 points.
Hope you enjoyed this little trick! Happy flying.

Great article and thanks for the tip! I just did the transfer as l was short on KrisFlyer miles and it was also instant for me (l did check a few mins after though!)
You’re welcome and that is fantastic to hear that, Jack.
