Hi all
A hint before you book any Qantas or Virgin Australia flight – if you prefer to book directly with the airline, make sure you have a quick look at flight comparison websites to see if there are cheaper deals available, because both airlines offer “price promises” (Qantas), or “fare promises “(Virgin Australia).
In short, if a third party website offers a lower price for the same flight on the same date (and subject to a range of conditions), then Qantas or Virgin will credit you the difference, and throw in points (1,000 QFF points for Qantas, and 500 Velocity points for Virgin) for the trouble!
What is my personal experience with price promises, and any tips and tricks?
I have used both Qantas and Virgin Australia’s price promises with nearly no issues. Even if there is a few dollars difference, l always claim it for the extra point (plus l hate overpaying!). The trick is to make sure that all the conditions are met per their website. This mainly includes comparing against an Australian retailer, on the same flight, flying on flights operated by the airline.
The only time l have been denied was a few years ago, when l took the screenshot before l booked my flight for Qantas. The difference was fairly large ($150), and annoyingly Qantas wouldn’t give me the difference (to be fair, l should have followed the conditions!).
Generally l get an email confirming the claim within one or two days, and had no issues with points not being credited.
I would love to hear other people’s experiences with this!
