Some people love to eat chocolate, some love to drink fine wine, and some love to shop online. I love to do all three! However this article will only focus on how to potentially earn Krisflyer Miles if you shop online.
The Krisflyer Spree is a shopping portal / mall where you can earn Krisflyer Miles, which can be hard to come by if you live in Australia – so an excellent way of earning miles. Below is an overview of how to use the Spree, and some examples of how this offers great value for money. If your preferred program is Asia Miles, then read my summary here, if Velocity, then read my summary here, or if its QFF, then read my summary here.
Once you’ve logged into the Spree with your Krisflyer membership details, you will see a range of online retailers, and how many points you can earn per dollar. While there is a large range of retailers, it does have a Singapore / Asia focus, but there are still plenty of retailers for Australian shoppers. The way to filter for Australian retailers is by clicking the “All” menu option, and then click Australia and New Zealand, then “save” as per below.
If you intend to make a purchase, click through on the relevant retailer, follow the prompts, and then complete your transaction on the retailers website. Krisflyer Spree will track your purchase, and will credit you with the points. I haven’t had an issue with the tracking process (that is, l’ve always received my points for a purchase l make using the Spree), but l’ve heard of instances where it doesn’t track!
At the time of writing, there are c.50 Australian retailers on Spree, and the number of points they offer per dollar (this is obviously subject to change depending on promotions etc). Spree quote in miles per US dollar spent. Some of the retailers include:
- Apple (15 Krisflyer Miles per 10 US dollars)
- Booking.com (15 Krisflyer Miles per 10 US dollars)
- Menulog (12 Krisflyer Miles per 10 US dollars)
- Groupon (46 Krisflyer Miles per 10 US dollars)
- Uniqlo (26 Krisflyer Miles per 10 US dollars)
So if you think about it, there are some great examples of where this is good value:
- If you are going to make a hotel reservation through an online-only retailer like Booking.com, you might as well use the Spree, as you earn 15 Krisflyer Miles per 10 US dollars spent! So assume the AUD / USD rate is 0.70, and your purchase is AU$100 (US$70), you will earn 105 Asia Miles (7 x 15).
- If the retailer doesn’t generally doesn’t discount their goods, like Apple, and the price between purchasing online and in store is about the same, you might as well purchase through the mall and then the Apple website, and get points for your purchase! For example, l was in the market of an iPhone X recently, l looked around and there weren’t any specials in store or online. So if l bought through the Spree and then the Apple website, l would have received c.1,500 miles, which l wouldn’t have received if l bought in-store or online.
Note, at times, the Qantas Mall or Velocity eStore or Asia Miles iShop or Krisflyer Spree have promos where they offer extra points per dollar spent. Their partners overlap a fair bit, so always useful to be alert to these deals!
Hope this is of use to you as you go on your shopaholic adventures! Feel free to ask me any questions, or post about your experiences using Krisflyer Spree. Have a good day!
