G’day readers!
Thankfully when you travel through London Heathrow Airport as a Oneworld member, there are some great lounge options (main one being the new Qantas lounge). On a recent trip, l decided to visit British Airways Galleries Lounge, located in Terminal 3 (where Qantas / Emirates flights depart from). In short, an average lounge! Have a read to see how l came to that conclusion!
Key details:
- The lounge is open to British Airways first and business class travellers / certain Oneworld members
- Open daily from 5am to 10:30pm
- Directions to the lounge are heavily signed (can’t miss it!)
The lounge is a decent size, but when l was there in the morning, it was very busy. The lounge lacks natural light, and has a low ceiling, this doesn’t make it the most inviting space! There are plenty of seating areas throughout the lounge – when you enter, there is small buffet / drinks area with tables to eat, and then as you go further down the lounge, there are plenty of areas to sit and have a drink / nibble.
Dining and drinks
There was a self-service food and drink area, which average. In the morning, there was a some hot food available such as hashbrowns (McDonalds hashbrows taste much better), cereal and pastries. There is a self serve coffee machine, and the drink selection was reasonable – a mix of European and American wines (though too early for me to try!). There was a wide array of non-alcholic beverages (most soft drinks / mineral water / juices). If only there was a barista making coffee, and a better selection of hot food!
Other facilities (showers etc)
The lounge has decent showers (they have a sterile feel to it). You have to go outside the entrance to the lounge to find the showers.
There was also a business workstation area, with a number of computers which can be used if you need to send a few emails, or surf the net – this was very handy as l didn’t bring my laptop and l wanted to type out a few emails.
A decent lounge to spend some time before your flight. As mentioned above, the hot food selection could be improved, and a better atmosphere could be created by getting more natural light in! I would have loved a barista made coffee as well, or in the evening, a bartender to make a drink (which is available at the Qantas lounge).
Feel free to ask me any questions!
